Wouldn’t you like having your organic vegetables grown for you in your own backyard?
Well, with MyFarm in San Francisco, that’s just how it works. The people at MyFarm have created an exciting model for an urban CSA, which is one farm made up of many backyards. The homeowner chooses the size of “owner member installation” that works for them and pays for the garden to be installed by MyFarm workers. That farm is then tended by a MyFarm gardner who comes on a regular schedule. Each week the produce is harvested the “owner member” receives their share at a discount and the other shares are taken to market and sold.
This is an exciting model for people in urban areas who want food-producing gardens, but who don’t necessarily have the time or knowledge to take care of them. It’s also a creative way to start a farm in an urban area where in tact parcels aren’t available, affordable, or zoned for agriculture. We applaud this type of innovative, holistic thinking and hope to see more of it.
