A rare, long-standing heirloom leaf lettuce that has it all. We think it is one of the best lettuces in the world. Will stay fresh and tasty at marketable size for about three weeks even in hot weather. Overwintered through a snowy winter in Willits (zone 8). Can be grown as a cut and come again variety. One of our gardeners took seven heads off each of her plants one summer. Oak-leaf shaped, bronze-red leaves are tops for appearance and sweet flavor. 300 seeds.

Wilt and rust resistant. Large, vigorous, productive thick-stemmed determinate vines with heavy foliage. About 7-8 ounce globular, smooth, bright red fruits with thick walls and small seed cells. Very firm fruit with low acidity, it has a fantastic “old time flavor”. Very productive under a wide range of conditions. Does well under humid conditions. Free from cracks. 45 seeds.

Many feel this is the sweetest melon grown! Vigorous vines produce round fruits about 7-8.5” in diameter and 8-12 lbs. The flesh is medium red, crisp, firm and solid with few, small brown Very productive and resistant to cracking, it will ripen in areas where other varieties do not produce. 70 seeds.

Nantes 2. Very early. 7” long cylindrical, blunt-bottomed roots, and almost core-less. Sweet, brittle, aromatic flesh, a good type for pulling early and eating. Good freezer. 800 seeds.

Fruit has a dark green color & an attractive cylinder with rounded blunt ends. Measures 8”X 2”. Prolific and vigorous plant that is tolerant to mosaic. Good for home use. 40 seeds.

“Widely coveted”, flesh of fragrant sweetness. Thick medium-green flesh that is tinged salmon near the seed cavity. Smooth pale-yellow rind with green sutures. Vigorous vines, heavy crops of small fruits. Grows anywhere in mainland U.S. Needs some watering in dry spells. Freezes well. Israeli adaptation of ancient SW Indian melon. 30 seeds.

Best white keeper. Handsome medium-size globe. Flesh is fine-grained, very firm and snowy-white with a mild pungent flavor. Excellent bunching onion and as Autumn onions. Preferred by restaurants whenever available. Long day. 150 seeds.

(Circa 1865 or earlier) Very popular, very quick-growing. Vigorous and prolific producer of ample green tops and clear, silvery-white shafts. Delicious, mild flavor. Does grow 3-4” bulb but not a keeper. 150 seeds.

Ecology Action Special Mix

For years we have been recommending a formulation of fava, vetch, wheat and rye as a particularly beneficial compost crop for your garden. We are now offering this standard as a 2-pack combination: one pre-mixed packet of wheat, vetch, and rye, and one packet of fava beans, which are planted separately. 1500 seeds.

Here's a wheat you can plant and harvest in the same season! While not as high yielding as winter wheat, it is very high in protein, generally over 12%. Plant around the date of the last killing frost, maturity by early Summer. 1250 seeds.
